LOOK FOR COLORS IN SALVAGE

Blues, browns, and creams are just a few of the colors that stand out in this collection of salvaged and vintage materials.

The wall color is close to the burlap color.
Not only do I use Salvage Material for Interior Design and Decorating, but I use it to help me find colors.  Vintage cooper, blue glass, woods, whites and more can all can be found in salvaged or vintage finds. Look for your favorite colors!  My best, Joanne

SALVAGED WOOD! A few of my favorite things...

There are so many amazing uses for salvaged wood: Framing, interior design, beams, islands, cabinets, and even house decor; mirrors, frames and my favorite, dining room tables! I have a little bit of a TABLE FETISH and have a bad habit of collecting salvaged or upcycled ones -- too bad I wasn't addicted to something smaller like shoes or little porcelain dolls.

Have fun being creative with wood!  Joanne

RECYCLED AND UPCYCLED HAND BAGS FOR SPRING!

As I watch the snow melt in the front yard, I'm excited to see grass and pull out my summer clothes. Which made me realize I'm in need of a new handbag! So instead of "new" per-say...I found some amazing recycled (upcycled) bag that I love. Aren't they fun!
Messenger tote!

Hobo Shoulder Bag with Vintage Tribal Fabric

I decided to give it a try myself with an old jacket and a crewel worked owl wall hanging I found at a recycled center!
TA DA! Made an easy flap closure with the collar of the old jacket and a should strap with a belt! I still like the other two bags better but it was still fun to make!  Joanne

My COTTAGE BOOK

Still Available on Amazon

As spring is starting to show itself it reminds me of a book I wrote called, Camps, Cottages and Cabins, Tips and Ideas for Getting the Most  Out of Your Seasonal Home.  It was a fun book to write and even in 2002, I was thinking SALVAGE DECOR, because I have a whole chapter called Decorating Made Simple, which gives a bunch of ideas on how to decorate your cottage or cabin using vintage, thrift store or recycled finds.  Amazon is still selling the book and I'm happy to say it has received great reviews!  Thanks that means a lot to me! INSPIRATION!

When I travel I see the coolest things! It makes me realize that a lot of people like salvage material! It helps inspire me for future design ideas! Donkeys made with recycled barb wire (one of my favorite materials). A table at ABC HOME (part of ABC Carpet in NYC) and of course, cool stools in the Caribbean.

THE COOLEST CHAIRS

I was just traveling in the Caribbean and came across these chairs and bar stools made out of old fishing boats. I loved the colors and the look of these chairs. I like to see even on a small island at a beach resort they are thinking salvage. I think I need to travel more to exotic islands...

UPCYCLED WINE BOTTLES

I love these glasses made from recycled wine bottles.  I saw them on ETSY.COM (which is a very addicting place to check out artisans, vintage or salvaged goods.) How much fun it would be to have these beauties as your everyday glasses -- and even more fun to drink the wine to get to the bottles! Cheers! Joanne

MUD SEASON IN VERMONT

My Front Porch and the Cool Grate We Had Cut Into the Wood!
As the temperature rises in Vermont, and the snow begins to melt, the dirt road I live on reminds me of why we call spring in Vermont, Mud Season. Thankfully, to keep the mud, snow, sand, or anything from the bottom of our feet, for that matter, out of our home, we inset a walk-off grate on the entryway porch! We love it! The grates in the picture I saw at Mason Brothers Architectural Salvage in Essex Junction Vermont. Joanne
