MY FIRST TV APPEARANCE -- DIY TILE PROJECT
That was tons of fun! My first TV appearance for the book -- thanks to Shannon Quimby and the gang at KOIN Studio 6. They were all so nice and made me feel very comfortable! Thank you all! We did a great DIY tile project showing how to turn ordinary salvaged white tile (picked at the Rebuild Center) into beautiful Portuguese masterpieces. Perfect for a back splash in a kitchen or wall tile in a bathroom. To see how to do it and the video of my appearance just CLICK HERE! Next...my book signing at Rejuvenation on Sunday!

TAG! YOUR IT!
I had some left over burlap and ribbon from a recent project and instead of throwing it away I salvaged it and made some tags! Got out my stencils and used a cream color base, let it dry, and then almost overlapped (leaving an edge of the cream showing) that color with blue paint. Then I doubled up the burlap, so you couldn't see the paint seeping through the first one and to keep the ribbon in place (sew the ribbon in between them). I made sure I left enough room around the edge so I could fray it a bit. Voila! Instant tags for gifts or even luggage tags to help you pick our your black bag from the hundreds of others at the airport! Your turn to have fun with this great weekend project!

Joanne

Salvage Secrets will be my bible... Salvaged Grace
If you’re new to actually using salvaged items, like I am, that’s where reclaimed material evangelist, designer and blogger Joanne Palmisano comes in. Her new book, Salvage Secrets, is the ultimate guide to getting started. Palmisano breaks down materials by type, with chapters on wood, glass, metal, ceramic and lighting, detailing the different uses for each one as well as practical tips, like how to sand old wood to reveal the character underneath. She also features real homes outfitted with reclaimed materials, from light fixtures fashioned out of recycled wine bottles to a vintage washstand turned into a modern bathroom vanity. When you finish the book, you’ll be armed and ready to search for your own trash-into-treasure find. —LIZ GRAY, HGTV BLOG, Senior Editor

KITCHEN SALVAGE DECORATING FUN!
My twin sister, Rosanne, was visiting. She is also full of GREAT SALVAGE DESIGN and DECORATING ideas! True Salvage Sisters! We stopped at a second-hand kids toy store and bought some metal trucks. She cleaned them up and put them out as my SALT and PEPPER for dinner! CLEVER ROSIE! We also stopped at an adorable garden center -- GARDEN GODDESS -- you gotta just love the name. They had some fun ways to use some KITCHEN GOODIES too! The salvaged wooden box makes for a great PARTY WINE HOLDER! The colander would be a fun gift idea to have filled with FRESH HERBS for cooking!
Get creative in the kitchen without making a single MEAL! :)
